Met Gala 2016 has come and gone and we, ordinary mortals, are left ogling at the glamorous fashion displayed by celebrities. One of the most exclusive social events in the Big Apple, Met Gala is the must-be and –be seen for many Hollywood celebrities. This year’s theme focuses on fashion “in the age of technology,” or whatever that means. Although the gowns are the centrepieces, the Met is also a big showroom for the best jewelry signatures worn by brand endorsers. One of the highlights is Demi Lovato’s Harry Kotler diamond earrings. The American singer/songwriter and model pairs the diamonds with a sunrise yellow, neo-tech inspired gown. The diamond earrings lend to the high-tech look a soft elegant touch and even highlighting Lovato’s deep brown eyes. Sometimes all it takes is a really nice pair of earrings to hit a fashion high note.

Remember the Reverso by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the watch with an art deco rectangular appeal that you can swivel? The reversible style became popular during the height of the British Empire, when watches were worn during polo plays. The Reverso allows players to protect the glass cover by swivelling the casing around. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso would become the face of this style, and to this day, the only luxury brand offering this design. Interestingly, CEO Daniel Reider said Reverso sales increased three years ago, signalling the watch trend towards vintage styles. To celebrate Reverso’s 85 years in the market, Jaeger-LeCoultre released an anniversary edition, featuring larger casing and fully automatic movements. Likewise, the wearer can customize the monoface and duoface of the watch. Owning a Reverso gives you that exclusivity appeal.
Jaeger-LeCoultre is available at Shreve & Co. on Post Street, San Francisco and in Portland, Oregon.
Pink diamonds are rare that wearing them lends to your style an exclusive and luxurious appeal. They are reserved for special occasions, and, unless it’s a wedding or engagement ring, you don’t wear pink diamonds to do your groceries. They are so exclusive that they are a favorite by Hollywood celebrities to brag about their engagement. Nick Cannon gave Mariah Carey a pink diamond ring when he proposed. Blake Lively also sports a pink diamond with a delicate setting. And, of course, who’d forget Ben Affleck’s pink diamond gift to Jennifer Lopez. The beauty of pink diamonds is, although they have color, they match almost any formal dress styles and hues, perhaps, save blue and its shades. Black or white, yellow or red, a formal dress will look even more stunning when paired with pink diamond ring or earrings. JB Star has a line of these ultra-glamorous diamond pieces.

Hearts On Fire recently appointed a new global chief revenue officer in a move that aims to boost the company’s overall profits. The diamond company named Stephen Barraque to the new post last April to oversee Hearts On Fire’s commercial activities worldwide, including retail, sales teams, and business opportunities. Barraque brings to the table years of experience in managing fashion brands, such as, LVMH, Fossil, and Baume & Mercier. “We are so excited to welcome Stephane to our family at Hearts On Fire,” Caryl Capeci, company president, said. On his part, the new global chief revenue officer said Hearts On Fire’s value proposition combined with support from its parent company, Chow Tai Fook, gives the brand a strong market leeway in an industry “that is rapidly evolving toward omnichannel, a new definition of luxury and global branding.”

IWC recently unveiled the Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher, its newest watch model. As with style trends today in the watch business, IWC’s newest design is an old iteration of a classic but adding a technological twist to the picture. Single pushers are as vintage as they get, a function used in pocket watches to start, stop, and reset time. The new model features a first for the signature: a single-button chronograph. Likewise, it is discrete, burying the pusher into the crown. The result is a neat clean chronograph with all its power, but with the luxurious appeal of a dress watch. The hand-wound function also adds nostalgia to the watch; some people find wounding their watch daily a soothing therapeutic break from the stress that clutter their days.

Shapes and textures are two important characteristics to look for in a diamond jewelry, particularly wedding rings and engagement rings. The shape of the stone, for instance, is the pivot from where the rest of ring’s style revolves around. A round diamond will have a different setting appeal than, say, an emerald cut one or a princess cut. On the other hand, texture refers to the surface of the diamond, the metal or the overall feel of the piece. Halo diamonds will have a rough surface because of the brilliant diamonds surrounding the major stone. Conversely, a solitaire will have a smoother “feel” because it has less surface than multiple diamonds. The pattern and joints in the precious metal also dictate the texture. Use shapes and textures to guide your preference when buying diamond rings.

Diamonds are carbon-based mineral forged deep in the earth’s bowels for millions of years by extreme heat and pressure. The result is the strongest material on earth known to man. Diamonds get their strength from the unusual arrangement of their facets inside, which number to a dozen or more. Each one supports the rest creating a unified foundation that can withstand the hardness of other solid materials; hence, only a diamond can cut a diamond. The facets also serve another purpose: they bounce off light and in effect create brilliance or “fire” inside the stone. This brilliance can even be made brighter by cutting the diamond in the right angles. This is the secret of Fire & Ice by Forevermark, its diamonds are cut that the facets are precisely angled to reflect the most brilliance.

Some of the best luxury diamond jewelry brands rely on the design and style sensibilities of their artists more than the craftsmanship heritage of the signature. Many of these jewelry companies employ creative minds to help their founders or historical craftsmen to come up with new concepts. In fact, these creative geniuses have, on their own right, become celebrities themselves, and at times, the reason why buyers will want to go for a particular signature. Take Rebecca Selva for Fred Leighton. She’s the Chief Creative Director for the brand, having designed its jewelry pieces that have since been worn by A-list Hollywood stars, namely, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Kidman. Selva is the brains behind Fred Leighton’s signature styles like the Bellperron citrin diamond cuff and pave diamond-encrusted flowers, said to be a favorite by not a few celebrities.

Men have few accessories to wear if they want to appeal to their fashion senses. Unlike women who have a wide range of jewelry pieces, not the least dress styles, men are often stuck with a limited choice in what they can wear. So they have to choose well to project the right image. For a slick, neat and smart look, they can turn to watches that match a good set of well-fit suits and shoes. They can turn to Corum, the Swiss watch, for that classic and elegant look. The Corum Admiral Cup, for example, has simple patterns that reflect confidence and charm at once. It can be paired with a formal wear or daily corporate attire for power dressing. A set of three Corum watches, perhaps, is all a man needs to be stylish the whole time.
Corum is available at Shreve & Co.in Palo Alto, California.

Wear them daily as part of work dress or on weekend outings to the beach or a simple stroll at the park. Gemstones like sapphires, amethysts, topazes, and citrines can bring to life necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, cuffs, and bangles that are crafted in monotone or two-tone metal such as yellow gold, white gold, platinum, and sterling silver. Eclat has plenty of these gemstone-accented pieces, including: the Red Jade Ring; Three Blue Topaz Ring; Four Sapphire Ring; Blue Topaz Pave Ring; and Green Amethyst Sparkler Necklace. Power dressing is all about projecting confidence, authority, and credibility. It helps you set a high-level benchmark at once when meeting people who come across you for the first time. In the corporate world this is important when meeting with prospects, partners, or suppliers, who you need to impress even before you say a single word. It’s called sublime impression that communicates to the other party of your importance. Sleek suits, leather shoes, neat personal style are all part of power dressing. Likewise, wearing the right watch is important. Often in meetings, people’s eyes stray from looking at you to looking at visual cues about you even unintentionally. If they spot a Breitling Chronomat 41 on your wrist, they know you have class and taste, traits that may aid you to close a deal.
Breitling is available at Shreve & Co. on Post Street, San Francisco.
Classic jewelry diamond set on white gold or platinum can be transformed into something less formal by combining it with colorful dresses or bright casual clothes. This way, your wedding or engagement ring can be a part of your summer look. On another note, colored gems look livid when paired with plain clothes for, yet again, another summer style. If you have old jewelry pieces you haven’t worn for a long time, for example, pearls, why not get a couple of beads and string them with sterling silver bangles or bracelets. The pearls’ shiny white gleam will add an elegant accent to silver jewelry. Yellow gold and sterling silver like in an Alex Sepkus collection are also complementary, for instance, a yellow gold earring with a sterling silver necklace can work pretty well.
Alex Sepkus is available at Shreve & Co. on Post Street, San Francisco.
The gentleman today in the corporate world can be as vain as women. They can clean their face with facial wash, or rub cream on their face before retiring. They can also have liposuction, skin bleach, and other cosmetic surgeries to make them appear younger, healthier; thus, more competitive. Furthermore, the young man of today can be choosy about his clothes. No longer limited to the boring suits of his father’s time, today’s man has a slew of fashionable suits, shoes, and even jewelry to choose from. Although it is now acceptable for men to be vain, the gentleman with confidence doesn’t need all the vain treatments to look good. Sometimes he just needs to wear the right classic stuff, like a Baume & Mercier Classima watch, for instance.
Baume & Mercier is available at Shreve & Co. on Post Street, San Francisco and in Portland, Oregon.
There are many ways to look fashionable and get the attention of your co-workers. One is to follow the trend. Trends are often started by Hollywood, so wearing something that’s popular among celebrities can make you look popular, too. Two is to create your own style. But this approach may be difficult if you don’t have a natural swag for fashion. Three, which is the road less traveled, is to wear something out of the ordinary. We don’t mean you look like Lady Gaga, but a little added piece to your overall getup can create a stunning look. Tip—wearing a Bell & Ross vintage watch gives you an air of wisdom and confidence. Vintage is a sign of earned experience and that signals to your colleagues that you’re a veteran in the field who commands authority.
Bell & Ross is available at Shreve & Co. on Post Street, San Francisco.
Yellow gold has a flair and flamboyance that you have to be careful to match it with less vivid clothes to highlight the jewelry piece’s strength. Yellow gold usually works well with light neutral colors like white, grey, light brown, etc. However, yellow gold may look too vivid when matched with black; it reminds one of the flag of Germany. On the other hand, the jewelry complements primary and secondary colors in their light shades: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and violet. When matched with these colors, yellow gold becomes more striking and the style gives off a lively style that works fine on casual and semi-formal occasions. For luxurious yellow gold, Carrera Y Carrera has a wide selection that features intricate patterns and radiant shine.

In yet another highlight of A. Lange & Sohne’s renowned watch craftsmanship, the The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater was awarded the Technical Star at the Watchstars Awards 2016 last March. The award was given to Walter Lange for his masterpiece during a media event at the Baselworld show, the world’s premier event for watch signatures. Zeitwerk was critiqued by 51 international watch experts standing as jury; they chose the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater for its renowned reinterpretation of a complication. The timepiece features a Lange LO43.5 manufacture calibre, a lever escapement, with an in-house manufactured shock-resistant screw balance spring that moves at a frequency of 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour. It is available in black leather strap that highlights the mechanical underpinnings of the complication. This watch is truly a masterpiece.

Who said luxury watches come in round shapes? Not Vacheron Constantin, which has some of the more eccentric shapes in its array of collections. Perhaps the most out-of-the-box shape of them is Heures Creatives line, which has around eight models in varying shapes. One model is shaped as a fan hugging the strap, while another is subtly aligned with the strap, as if the whole watch is just a bracelet. Yet another Heures Creatives model mimics an opulent mirror, reminiscent of the mirror we see in royal bedrooms. Meanwhile, the 1972 Collection also has strange, but surprisingly, elegant shapes. The collection has about seven models, each one shaped as a rectangular in an interesting perspective angle, as if you’re looking at the casing from a 45-degree angle on its left side.

The beauty of charms lies in their ability to create meaningful gifts or personal purchase out of seemingly trivial items. You can have a travel-inspired charm as a souvenir to your Paris honeymoon, maybe. Or a baby charm to mark the memory of having your first baby. Aaron Basha has a line of these lovely charms that you can easily put meaning with. For example, the Airplane Charm or Ball Fish with Flower Charm can be a special gift to your child’s 6th birthday. He or she can wear the charm from thereon, as part of his or her casual getup at school or in social gatherings. The charm becomes a physical bonding icon for you and your child, reminding both of you of those memorable childhood years.

Aside from its spinning patent feature, Wellendorff is also known for its iconic Ring of the Year collection. We got a glimpse of these luxuriously crafted rings last year, when Wellendorff exhibited the rings to celebrate its 20th anniversary. It was in 1997 when Wellendorff started creating a limited Special Ring edition and engraved with the year. The Special Rings also feature a special motif, such as, angles, butterflies, and fireworks. All the nineteen Special Rings were on display at the Year Exhibition at Gallery last year in Hong Kong. Some of the items mark special events, such as: the handover of Hong Kong to China and the 2015 edition, the Love for Life motif. This year, Wellendorff is releasing only 216 Danke rings for select women, keeping with the collection’s exclusivity appeal.

Heirlooms are not only about physical items that you keep, then pass on to the next generation. It can also be a place. Yes, an actual location that holds a special memory for you and your loved one that you can point to one day to your child. For example, the restaurant where you first dated, or the church where you got married. It can also be your first house as a couple, or the hospital where your first baby was born. It can even be as trivial—but no less memorable—as that bench in the park where you’d spend late afternoons as a young couple. However, this place may one day be gone and it’s beyond your control. So A. Jaffe has a wonderful idea: its Maps Collection allows you to mark the location with a diamond that you can wear as a pendant forever.
