French style

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 9:00:00 AM in Bell & Ross (16)

Swiss watches are known for precision engineering, Japanese watches for quartz and Italian watches are popular for their stylish flair. What about French watches? Bell & Ross, the French watchmaker, may give us a clue. Its aviation measuring instrument-inspired line of watches features an unusual box casing that runs against the norm of sleek, graceful and elegant round casings common to luxury watches. The Bell & Ross is straightforward functional—as a plane’s instrument, its inspiration, must be—and unembarrassed by the idea it’s not subscribing to industry trends. Yet this same eccentricity attracts Bell & Ross fans, celebrating uniqueness and the confidence to be different. It’s French and it has little regard for what the world thinks of style. To a French, style itself is Francois.

Bell & Ross is available at Shreve & Co. in Portland, Oregon.
