There are two words that define professional watches: style and performance. And that is what Breitling watches are all about. Breitling has been making instruments for professionals since 1984. As a matter of fact, Breitling played a crucial role in the development of the wrist chronograph. It is the world's only major watch brand to equip its models with chronometer-certified movements. It also produces its own mechanical chronograph movement, which is rare in the industry. This is how passionate Breitling is in producing top-of-the-line timepieces. No surprise, it has become the official supplier to world aviation. Breitling watches do no only look sturdy but they are actually made to last. They are reliable and high-performance instruments. Because of its excellent reputation, Breitling watches will never be out of trend. They are not just fads that wear away in season.

Breitling’s first independent chronograph pushpiece, which separated the stop/start functions from the reset one created great strides in aviation, especially in flight time calculations. The brand’s highly technical and aesthetically impressive models such as the Navitimer 1461 spurred Breitling to the top of the industry for highly-functional modern watches trusted by serious sports enthusiasts and seasoned aviation professionals. The Grande Complication Navitimer Chronograph bears the famous circular aviation slide rule combined with a “leap year calendar” and the sophisticated Breitling 19 selfwinding mechanical movement that is comprised of 450 parts.

If Breitling was a car, it would have been a Bentley. As a matter of fact, Breitling is in Bentley. In 2002, the shared pursuit of perfection, performance and elegance brought two great brands together; the famed British car manufacturer, Bentley, and the Swiss watch specialist, Breitling. The watchmaker contributed its personal touch to the most powerful Bentley ever built, the Continental GT, by participating in the design of the automobile’s technical instruments and even creating its onboard clock. Breitling is the first watchmaker ever entrusted with this task for the 90 year-old auto brand, and Bentley had good reason to do so. Breitling has been a strong influence in the field of horology since 1884, making pioneering strides in the development of wrist chronographs and mechanical chronograph movements. Since its establishment in 1884 by Swiss gentleman Leon Breitling, the Breitling watch manufacturer has had an active hand in man’s historical milestones in terms of sports, automobile and aviation. In 1915, Breitling invented the the first independent chronograph pushpiece, ushering in the first wave of wrist chronographs. In 1923, the brand came up with the resetting function which proved quite valuable for sports competitions and flight time calculations. In 1969, the watchmaker once again broke through the odds of the 20th century watchmaking challenge – it presented the first self-winding movement. In 2009, Breitling found itself in another milestone when it launched the finest self-winding movement called Caliber 01. Even until now, Breitling continues to break new grounds in chronograph development as the leader in sports and aviation chronographh production. Shreve & Co. Telling the perfect time is an obsession that humanity will never grow out of. It is by this tendency that we have created technology that is only apparent in our species. And for a long time, one brand has been at the forefront of this obsession. Breitling. Since 1884, Leon Breitling opened a small workshop that specialized in chronographs. With stern will and dedication, Breitling became a companion to the world’s long history of aviation where accuracy and reliability are most important. Having started supplying for the Royal Air Force in 1936, Breitling continues the tradition of precision in the early 1950s as Boeing, Lockheed and Douglas chose Breitling cockpit clocks; and so did 25 more airlines. In 1952, the Navitimer was born. This was the go-to wrist instrument for pilots being equipped with a circular slide rule or a “navigation computer”. A space venturing version of this Navitimer was made and on May 24, 1962, astronaut Scott Carpenter was the first to try this new invention aboard the Aurora 7 space capsule. If you’re a spaceman or a pilot, a Breitling is the best companion. But if you want to just sport one of the most accurate pieces in the world for the prestige or for whatever reasons you might posses, no one can say otherwise. Originally, Breitling was intended by the owner to tell time for industrial and scientific applications. In 1954 the Breitling Navitimer has been created. It was a wrist instrument having a navigation computer. This piece became the go-to piece among pilots around the world. During that time as well, Breitling has been manufacturing cockpit clocks for international airlines. In 1962, the Breitling Cosmonaute chronograph was worn by the astronaut Scott Carpenter in his orbital flight aboard the Aurora 7. With these feats and avant-garde engineering and design, Breitling has been moving forward since its inception in 1884 in Saint-Imier. Another brand joins Breitling as it shares the same quest for innovation and style. Bentley. With the same heritage and pedigree of excellence, the two brands pursue a unity of both elegance and expertise; the marriage of Swiss heritage and British chic that connoisseurs will love. Breitling for Bentley joins the other collections like the Professional Series and the Navitimer Series in continuing to carry the Breitling brand to those sophisticated and privileged enough to appreciate fine mechanical art pieces. Imagine maneuvering a 747 above the urban maze of skyscrapers inside a cockpit that seems to overload with control buttons; or crossing the Atlantic, you a tiny blimp of a twin-engine, relying on a few simple navigation tools and a lot of guts to conquer a record. Aviators are a hard-nosed bunch with superior focus and nerve control to help them to function with precise movement, one small misstep and the airplane spirals out of control. They demand accuracy, reliability, and a Breitling on their wrist, that timepiece closely associated with aviation for its precision chronographs. More than just a timepiece, Breitling is known for its high-performing movement that has aid aviators since the single-propelled flying era. The pressure in the air and the aviator’s wits building up in every flight, a pilot is glad to be looking at a Breitling. The dial provides a clear, refined display of coordinated movement. The case is sturdy, like a watch in steroids, yet an elegant line is not lost that reflects an aviator’s sophisticated intelligence. Since 1884, Breitling’s mastery of chronograph movement and navigation technology has propelled the watch as a brand of choice for precision time-telling and orientation. Its sponsorship of the Jetman project, an aviator’s quest to perfect a self-powered human flight, the Breitling aerobatic Jet Team, and other aviation programs define the engineering feat that ticks inside each Breitling timepiece.
