Are you allergic to earrings?

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 8:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Are you fond of wearing signature earrings like Harry Kotlar but are allergic to metal? Some people have sensitive skin that even a slight contact with precious metal triggers their allergy. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t wear earrings at all. People with metal allergies have some tricks to get around their allergies, such as, coating the earrings with clear nail polish. The thin invisible coat provides the buffer between skin and metal. Another tip is going for hoops that hook into themselves. Likewise, you can always down a pill an hour before wearing the metal to avoid an allergy attack. Then there are so-called nickel-free earrings, although these are hard-to-find pieces. Yet another helpful technique is rubbing antibiotic cream around the earlobes before wearing the earrings. Note though that if you have a medical condition, it’s best to consult your doctor before applying or taking allergy medications.

Met Gala 2016

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 8:40:45 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Met Gala 2016 has come and gone and we, ordinary mortals, are left ogling at the glamorous fashion displayed by celebrities. One of the most exclusive social events in the Big Apple, Met Gala is the must-be and –be seen for many Hollywood celebrities. This year’s theme focuses on fashion “in the age of technology,” or whatever that means. Although the gowns are the centrepieces, the Met is also a big showroom for the best jewelry signatures worn by brand endorsers. One of the highlights is Demi Lovato’s Harry Kotler diamond earrings. The American singer/songwriter and model pairs the diamonds with a sunrise yellow, neo-tech inspired gown. The diamond earrings lend to the high-tech look a soft elegant touch and even highlighting Lovato’s deep brown eyes. Sometimes all it takes is a really nice pair of earrings to hit a fashion high note.

More celebrity sightings

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 1:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Blame it on the Oscars. It’s the season of celebrities and we can’t get enough jewelry spotting to see which celebrities are wearing what signatures. Well, we saw Naya Rivera wearing a Harry Kotlar pair of earrings and necklace at the Vanity Fair  and Fiat’s Young Hollywood Celebration last February 24. Rivera, 28 years old, was seen in a revealing white dress with a plunging neckline that highlighted even more the Harry Kotlar around her neck. The “Glee” actress was sensual in her pose, proving that her post-baby figure is back in shape. The necklace, which has medium thick strand, complements her curvaceous body and short stature. It creates an illusion of vertical length, drawing attention to its bold style. This works well for Rivera, whose tan-toned complexion provides the backdrop to her Harry Kotlar.

Diamond as heirloom

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 8:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Many see diamonds as luxury items that the rich splurge money on because...well, they can. But diamonds are a good investment also, not only because their price is stable compared to the volatility of stocks, but also because you can pass them as an heirloom to the next generation: your children. For example, your daughter can inherit your wedding diamond ring to heighten her own wedding memories. No less than Prince Harry did this by giving the wedding diamond ring of her mother, the late Princess Diana, to his then bride, Kate. But because fashion trends do change, your wedding diamond ring doesn’t have to be worn as is by your daughter (in fact, it must be resize to fit her finger’s circumference). Rather, she can have the stone recut or reset on her choice of fashionable band like a Harry Kotlar.

Crafting Old-World Style

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 1:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

As a fan of jewelry, I have always liked reading how these exquisite pieces have taken shaped. The last one I have looked into and wish to share with you is from one of best companies when it comes to craftsmanship -- Harry Kotlar. What's great about the Harry Kotlar approach is that the firm is a master of old world techniques which hardly changed in over half a millennium. This Old-World artistry is combined with modern sophistication to form pieces whose timelessness and timeliness just melts into all points in time. All starts with forging of gold or platinum - heated and shaped by hand. Then the stones are set also by hand in a masterful way. The carving and polishing are also done without the age of computers or digital techniques -- a tradition that was built by history and heritage. The product? Always a Harry Kotlar perfection.

Spend time together

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 8:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

It sounds obvious that the key to keeping an intimate relationship is to, quite simply, be together. But that isn't enough; you should spend time engaged together. That means having an exciting or interesting communication during the time that you're together. To remind yourself how that looks like just imagine the time when you're dating each other, when you could chat for hours together. Although it's difficult to achieve the same level of prolonged excitement now, try to keep a shared interest or hobby to talk about or work on. It can be a project, a book or movie, or simply having coffee by the garden every morning. At the same time, try something new to break the monotony of daily life. Why not go on an unplanned travel and collect new memories? Or, perhaps, surprise her one morning with a special ring like a Harry Kotlar.

A Truly Luxurious Ring

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 12:00:00 PM in Harry Kotlar (29)

How do you fancy a 10.11 carat radiant cut diamond platinum ring? Harry Kotlar recently created one of the most stunning diamond rings with the release of Harmone. Just how luxurious is this piece? It doesn't have a published price, you have to call for a quote. This exclusive work is reserved for one who believes price is no issue when it comes to luxury. If this is you, then you can delight on two rows of pave diamonds that cover the entire length of the platinum band, culminating at a three-stone centerpiece. The thee-stone features a central radiant cut yellow gold diamond between two smaller stones. Total carat weight including the band is 12.04 with clarity set at VS2. This ring truly deserves a second look.

What to look for when buying diamond jewelry?

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 5:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Buying diamond jewelry need not be complicated, but don’t take it for granted, either. Just because a piece is expensive does it mean you’re getting the best value. Take time to know the vendor (merchant). Is it reputable? Do they have after sales service that you can claim should you need to repair the jewelry (a lost earring, for example)? Study also the signature brand. There are plenty of new but promising jewelry brands like Harry Kotlar, styles that manifest the artistic personalities of their creators. If you’re going for an older signature, make sure the vendor is an authorized dealer; big signature brands often have little time to attend to their customers for sheer volume, so they task their distributors to address customers’ concerns.

Does wealth mean happiness?

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 10:50:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Next time you hear of a woman getting an expensive jewelry like Harry Kotlar, don’t be quick to envy her. A Harry Kotlar, admittedly, is one of the most impressive high jewelry pieces, but it’s not about the brand. Does a show of wealth will make you happy? Confucius once said, “Admirable indeed is a man (or woman) who did not allow his joy to be affected.” But if you go by a study on Chinese wealthy reported in The Economist, between 1990 and 2010, a period of increased wealth up to fourfold among many Chinese, the researchers didn’t find any significant increase in life satisfaction. The study suggests wealth is not easily tied to happiness, but it doesn’t mean it’s also a source of unhappiness. The point is, more than longing for expensive jewelry, long for the reason it’s given to you.

First Date

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 3:00:55 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

You’re holding a Harry Kotlar that you’re giving to her to propose. It’s been five years and you thought it’s time to take the relationship to the next level. As you marvel at the exquisite style of the ring, you start to reminisce of the past: your first date. You were just starting out a career in sales and all you could afford was to treat her to a burger joint. You and she just cabbed it to the movie because you’re still saving up for the SUV. You had some extra cash in your wallet because you’re unsure if your credit card would not max out that night (you remember your naughty thoughts checking out hotels in the area). Not that you felt insecure back then; in fact, it was fun and nostalgic, something that put a smile in your face as you close the Harry Kotlar box and get ready to meet her tonight.

Face shape matters

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 7:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

There are many ways to wear earrings that match your face and style. If you have a round face, which tends to make you wide and full, long dangles can slim the facial shape. A pair of Harry Kotlar dangles featuring marquise center stones and set in handcrafted platinum gives your face a more vertical appearance. On the other hand, if you have a long face, it’s best to wear wide and round earrings to make the face look fuller. The Kotlar Cushion stud, also handcrafted in platinum and set with 18k rose gold and pave bezel, expands the long facial shape to strike a more balance appearance. Harry Kotlar has more of these luxury earring collections that work for people with round or long faces.

Diamond for the next generation

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 6:00:00 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Diamonds have an allure by themselves that other precious stones can’t match. Around the world, more people are buying diamond jewelry driven by the stone’s brilliance and elegance. Forbes has reported that China and India account for the most diamond buyers, two countries with solid heritage ties with luxurious jewelry. In the U.S., diamond jewelry is  mostly bought for bridal and engagement, but a few pieces are sold as investment or prized heirloom. In fact, one of the best heirlooms that you can handover to the next generation is a diamond ring like a Harry Kotlar. Nothing is more symbolic than the mother giving her Harry Kotlar wedding ring to her daughter for the latter’s marriage vows. It’s more than luxury, it’s a bond that ties families together onto the next generation.

The classic cushion diamond

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 3:01:36 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

Among the many archetypal diamond shapes, only a handful is likely to stand the test of time. One of these enduring few is the cushion shape, which is most recognizable for its huge crown, big open culet, and pavilion facets. And to further immortalize this classic gem shape, Harry Kotlar came up with its own fresh, innovative version in the Kotlar Cushion Diamond engagement rings and wedding bands. Bequeathed with over 60 facets, the Kotlar Cushion Diamond features four major facets that mirror light into the core of the stone to generate fire and radiance that even the most eclectic aficionados would likely long for. The ingenious, creative architecture ultimately creates a breathtaking cushion jewelry that is likely to transcend industry standard and limits of time.

A Shining History

Posted by Shreve & Co. at 4:18:48 AM in Harry Kotlar (29)

As the premier jewelry manufacturer Harry Kotlar celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, the company looks back with poignant pride to its rich and inspiring history. After toughing out the frightful challenges of the Second World War, Polish immigrant Harry Kotlar arrived in the United States with his family to start a fledgling diamond business. The name that is now synonymous with “The World’s Most Brilliant Cushion Cut Diamonds” began humbly in the pioneer jeweler’s dedication as he personally sold loose diamonds, cut by his brother-in-law, to jewelry manufacturers and retailers. Having lost most possessions during the preceding war, Kotlar’s biggest asset was his quickly-expanding network of relationships based on trust and integrity. The third generation of the family continues to uphold the brand’s sterling reputation in the industry, as well as the first generation’s commitment to Beauty, Art and Perfection.
In addition to the brand’s expertly-cut polished loose diamonds, Harry Kotlar offers luxury and bridal jewelries all meticulously handcrafted and set in the most endearing designs. Shreve & Co. in Portland, Oregon is an authorized dealer for Harry Kotlar.

Three generations later, the company thrives in the diamond industry in realization of its founder’s high hopes. The brand’s favorite design is the intricate melee pattern, which is the use of smaller brilliant-cut diamonds to embellish the mountings for jewelry.
