Diamond Engagement Ring and Wedding Band

There are many articles on how to find the perfect engagement ring, since it is the star of the show, after all, but finding the perfect wedding band is just as important. Many questions surround the topic, such as will this ring serve to complement and enhance the engagement ring or will it be a separate showstopper all on its ownBefore you embark on the dizzying search for the right one, keep reading for our tips on how to make the process a little easier and a lot more fun.

Diamond Engagement Ring and Wedding Band

First things first: decide if this will be a joint search or solo, much like when you decided to purchase an engagement ring. Is the expectation that both your and your spouse’s wedding band match? Do you want something customized to your individual tastes and will they need to come from different manufacturers? Is the engagement ring one-of-a-kind that may require a little more customization so both rings pair well together? Know before you go!

The Metal Band

The tried-and-true classic wedding band you probably see more often than not. These bands usually feature no stones and come in a wide range of materials, including platinum, titanium, stainless steel, and 18/14k white, yellow, or rose gold.

Pros: This band is your safest bet since they pair well with all engagement ringsThis band lets the engagement ring have center stage and does not fight for attention. The active bride loves a metal band because she doesn’t have to worry about it getting in the way or stone/prong damage.

Cons: As noted, this is the most versatile option out there. If your bride wants something extra-blingy, however, something they could even wear by itself from time to time, this may not be the best option.

The Pavé Band

Encrusted with gemstones and/or diamonds, the pavé band is the antidote for brides that want the extra sparkle without high prongs. Pavé bands are also versatile, in that they can be customized to match the stones in your engagement ring.

Pros: If the engagement ring is on the simpler side, this could be a way to add more pizzaz or increase carat count altogether. These pair seamlessly with an engagement ring that already has a pavé band or pavé halo setting.

Cons: If your engagement ring is bespoke or has a unique setting, the bands may not sit flush with each other, creating a gap some find annoying.

The Eternity Band

An eternity band is a band wrapped with diamonds and gemstones all the way around. Best for the bride that loves choices. This band offers two styles: shared prong (side-by side stones share a prong) and channel setting (stones sit side-by-side within a metal channel).

Pros: Eternity bands are super customizable: any stone that can be set in an engagement ring can be set in an eternity band. Optimal for the bride that wants to wear their wedding band by itself, as the eternity band speaks for itself.

Cons: While it will add extra shine to a classic engagement ring, the look may not be as cohesive if you’re not pairing with another eternity band.
